Rice Series 2013 – 2020
The big square is simple and impressive at the same time. The 361 rice bunches pick up the structure of the floor. Their outlines form circles, their blur animate the rigid geometry. It is the encounter of the precision with the random. The act of sowing sounds. The rice field can be wandered trough with awareness. The rice does not germinate or nourish us physically. His presence, however, lets us feel his potential.

Ink Series 2000 – 2014
To paint the tea bowls, I need an ink stone and water, a calligraphy brush for ink painting and absorbent paper. I mostly paint using the Sumi-E technique. The object of my painting attention is a tea bowl, a simple utility vessel of great beauty. I initially painted tea bowls as a daily painting exercise. As a series, the painted leaves reflect particular interests and sensitivities, like the freedom in the guidance of the brush or the focus on the material quality of the bowl or on the object in its environment or on the bowl as a volume. Stripping things of all color and releasing them from the context of their environment makes their internal structure palpable.

There are two different mountains in southern Ticino: The mountain of truth – Monte Verità – on Lake Maggiore and the golden mountain – Collina d‘ Oro – in Ceresio, reflected in the rocky simplicity of a changing landscape.
There were various revolutionaries (locals call them nerds) from the north for a few decades, who radically turned away from bourgeois society. Here on the g olden mountain, however, in the lap of a lovely landscape, great spirits from the region and the wide world created wonderful things for centuries. I was lucky enough to spend an almost magical year in the heart of this golden hill in Barbengo thanks to the generosity of the Fondazione Sciaredo. The silent, timeless and spatial interchangeability of this southern environment gave me the opportunity to penetrate deeper into the inside of the mind (locals call it Citta) through practice. In my artistic work, this experience has had a positive effect.
This album is my homage to the cosmopolitan Ticino, the Collina d’Oro, the Fondazione Sciaredo and especially to Georgette Klein, who created this creative place back in 1932.
